Elon Musk Twitter Files cover-up theory

After acquiring Twitter for $44 billion in October 2022, Elon Musk released internal documents to journalists Matt Taibbi, Bari Weiss, Michael Shellenberger, Lee Fang, David Zweig, and others between December 2022 and March 2023. The released 'Twitter Files' documented company communications with FBI, DHS, and Biden campaign officials regarding content moderation, including suppression of the New York Post's October 2020 Hunter Biden laptop story.

Critics on the left argued the disclosures cherry-picked routine industry-government communications normal for any major platform. Supporters argued they confirmed long-standing claims of a 'censorship-industrial complex'.

The Murthy v Missouri case reached the Supreme Court, which in June 2024 ruled the plaintiffs lacked standing to challenge federal jawboning, leaving the underlying First Amendment questions undecided.
